Off-duty and exhausted, Genny was no longer dressed in her Ranger uniform, casuals accented by the bandages that lace her arms, legs, and her face; specifically the bridge of her nose. Exhaustion kissed her, and she had been granted vacation leave for a few weeks. When clocking in seventy hour weeks, that's how things rested.[break][break]

On her side, Fawkes the Torchic would walk by with his talons, clawing into the dirt. Guardian the Duskull rested in her chest, in case he needed the assist.[break][break]

As she does her own off-duty recon, she needs to rest again. She was so tired of this island. She almost started to curse because of it, but she keeps it in. At least for the moment. What was she even doing? Hoping to find someone, and for what? To fail again? To test her mettle?[break][break]

Fawkes and Guardian can tell something is wrong, and though they don't approach Genny on it... they do keep it in mind. Guardian begins to sense something nearby.[break][break]

Fawkes prepares himself. Genny keeps walking, ever diligent, before seeing in the distance someone under the cover of one of the palm trees here on the beach. She freezes.[break][break]

"Name and purpose here." No chances. A Ranger Badge is out at the ready.

Xiura froze and looked up at the very obvious League Ranger badge the stranger was holding out. Well, considering her last attempt at pretending to be a civilian, it was better that she cut to the chase and get this battle started. She breathed out and climbed to her feet, Seviper crowding close in front of her.

“I’m Jocelyn,” she lied with a smile. Seviper hissed. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m was just on my way out.”

With a quick glance at both the Torchic and Duskull guarding Genny, she called forth a second Pokemon to even out the odds. “Poliwrath,” she acknowledged, giving the Water/Fighting-type Pokemon a meaningful look when he looked at her in confusion for not saying his name, Bufo. “Rage candy bars after this, okay?” she whispered under her breath.

She locked gazes with Genny, determined. “We just want to be on our way, and you look…” She paused at Genevieve's bandaged appearance, and diplomatically said, “It looks like you need some rest. Are you going to stop us?”

The Torchic and Duskull look onwards, as the Seviper hisses, both Pokemon appearing in front of Genny. She was so tired of this fight already. She was exhausted beyond comparison. But she held fast.[break][break]

A woman by the name of Jocelyn... part of her wants to believe it. Genny really does. But after being tormented all day by every single Rocket kind imaginable, from the good kind (howard slayte), to the kind who left her a sobbing mess (mint frost), she isn't about to take any chances.[break][break]

It's in the Poliwrath's appearance, that has Genny fumble, and takes a step back. She can't keep pushing herself like this.[break][break]

"I'm sorry..." she looks at Guardian and Fawkes, smiling, both of them raring to go.[break][break]

And then.[break][break]

"Yes. I am." The hostility of the Pokemon here have Genny in a light panic, as she chimes back. "What was your purpose here, Ms. Jocelyn..." it's a question, and she wants to believe it was for good intentions.[break][break]

"And why hide your face?" Bitterly... Genny hates that she probably knows why already.

Looking at the Seviper and the Poliwrath versus the Torchic and Duskull, Xiura felt that the battle was a little unfair, despite how fiery and determined the Ranger’s Pokemon seemed.

Xiura declined to answer the woman’s questions, instead bowing her head as if to soften the rudeness of her refusal. In her anonymity, perhaps it would come off as even more rude and mocking. “Poliwrath, make it rain with Rain Dance.” Perhaps she could reduce the efficacy of the woman’s Torchic during battle, while bolstering her own Water Pokemon. Storm clouds collected above, drizzling down and making the entire milieu that much more miserable. Seviper hissed in annoyance, but Poliwrath’s skin grew moist and shiny as he reveled in the water.

A darkened gaze, Genny felt the compusion to strike, and with that refusal to answer... it paints a rather conclusive picture. As Ms. Jocelyn orders the Poliwrath to make it rain. Her decision is made for her.[break][break]

And so.[break][break]

"Understood, Ms. Jocelyn. I will subdue you here." One hand outstretched, Genny prepares it. Hazel eyes, jaded by the Rockets who had already tormented her, taken from her... all of it comes to a head. "Fawkes. Aerial Ace the Poliwrath. Guardian. Future Sight."[break][break]

The Torchic rushes through the field, gaining speed from his SPEED BOOST as he goes in for the definitively-hitting AERIAL ACE, while the Duskull begins to peer into the veil of the future with FUTURE SIGHT to ensure the Seviper gets their just desserts.[break][break]

She's no longer sorry she has to do this. Quite the contrary. Genny is letting loose.

“I would hope not,” Xiura said, her gaze set, concentrating on the flow of battle. It would be best to get this over with as soon as possible. Her opponent seemed grimly determined to beat her; a thrill of worry ran up her back.

Her Poliwrath shuddered beneath the Torchic’s blow. “Poliwrath, Hydro Pump!” He bellowed mightily, aiming at the Torchic with a giant jetstream of water, its type advantage empowered by the rain.

“Seviper, use Sludge Bomb!” Her Seviper slithered warily at its opponent, but decided to strike at the pondering Duskull while it concentrated on Future Sight. A giant hunk of ooze was chucked at the Duskull, but Seviper seemed a little less focused because of the wet sand that it wasn't used to.

The rain empowers the Poliwrath's jetstream of water, massive in scale, as it throws Fawkes tumbling through the wet sand, as he flips and tumbles, landing with a weak chirp, as he tries to push through the pain. But... another SPEED BOOST. That Poliwrath won't get another attack on him, and Genny ensures this.[break][break]

"Flame Charge. Keep getting faster." The flame burns in the Torchic's eyes, and even if the power of the move is weakened here, as the little chicken goes in to strike, it won't make a difference.[break][break]

He's already faster, as he begins to speed around the goliath of a water tank here.[break][break]

Guardian has different struggle. Taking the SLUDGE BOMB, the caustic waste blast hitting the Duskull, the FUTURE SIGHT is done. It's just a matter of time now.[break][break]

"The one we practiced. Psychic." Genny calls out again, and the Duskull's eyes light up, and with it, the little ghost intends to lift the Seviper to throw the snake right into the Poliwrath. Tiny Pokemon they may be, but they are not to be underestimated.[break][break]

She calls out.[break][break]

"Why? Is this really the life you want?" An attack on three fronts, Genny takes a step forward. Hazel eyes look longingly. She doesn't want to hurt them. Or take them in. She just wants peace.

Her Seviper was thrown into Poliwrath with the force of the Psychic attack. Poliwrath shook the blow off, but Seviper fell unconscious, the attack doubly potent against the Poison-type Pokemon. Eyes were a window to the soul, and the fire in the stranger’s eyes and that of her Pokemon was powerful, indeed. Xiura’s motivation felt swayed by their determination and vigor; their fighting spirit was even more robust despite how tired they were. Even despite Xiura's pokemon using their most powerful attacks.

Would this battle really be worth it? Even if it was one that she had started in the first place?

Xiura gritted her teeth, seeing Poliwrath grow dizzy from the sight of the Torchic speeding around. Her Seviper slithered uneasily in the face of the grim future Duskull had perceived for her.

“It’s not a matter of what life I want,” she responded, but the words sounded empty and dull to her own ears.

She clenched her fists, fighting a battle in her own head. Was it worth this fight, seeing her Pokemon get hurt after working hard for so many days on end?

She took five seconds to make her decision. She raised her Pokeballs and called back Seviper and Poliwrath. “You win,” she said. “We’re leaving. Please don't follow us.” She released Hatterene, and took her Pokemon’s clawed appendage in hand. “Teleport,” she said, and disappeared into the forest.

Again. This was the second time a Rocket had stated that. That this wasn't a matter of what they wanted. It's... harrowing. Knowing that now, Genny was left with more questions than answers. One said they owed debt, but the other... this woman...[break][break]

Trouble comes knocking on her door. And with it, Genny feels such a distinct melacholy. This faction war, this us versus them mentality, it was more complicated. As much as some were the villains, some weren't what they appeared to be.[break][break]

So she stops. She halts. And Fawkes and Guardian watch. As the victory is gotten.[break][break]

Genny lets them go. "... I hope you can find your peace, one day."[break][break]

It's all she can do... and then they're gone, with the wind. All Genny can think is how little power she had at the moment. But no longer. No more.[break][break]

One day. She'll break the wheel. And reinvent it.
